Pickaway County, Ohio — A witness’s quick action led to the arrest of a hit-skip suspect following a crash over the weekend in Pickaway County.

On July 28, 2024, around 3 p.m., a collision occurred on Whiteside Road involving two vehicles. According to the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office, a 2002 Cadillac Escalade traveling southbound made contact with the driver-side mirror of a northbound 2021 Chevrolet 3500, which was towing a trailer. The impact damaged both mirrors.

Both drivers reported that the other failed to move over adequately. After the collision, the Cadillac Escalade did not stop at the scene. However, a witness who observed the incident pursued the fleeing vehicle.

With the help of the witness, law enforcement apprehended the driver, identified as Maria Delourdes, 31, near Crownovermill Road, west of Crownover Road. Delourdes was found to be driving without a valid driver’s license or insurance. The Cadillac Escalade, which was not registered in her name, was stopped and Delourdes was charged with hit-skip, driving without a license, and driving without insurance.

The quick response from the witness and law enforcement ensured that the suspect was promptly located and charged.
