Circleville – City Law Director Kenda Kinney’s office continues to manage the municipal court docket, addressing concerns stemming from a recent tragic event. Last week’s fatal shooting, which occurred near the intersection of Corwin and Pickaway Streets, has led to significant legal developments. The initial court appearance resulted in the defendant being held without bond, a decision made by Judge Peters. The preliminary hearing for the case is scheduled for tomorrow.
On August 13, 2024, at approximately 5:00 p.m., emergency responders were dispatched to a shooting incident on Corwin Street. The victim, a man with a gunshot wound to the chest, was found lying on the ground by first responders. After receiving initial treatment at the scene, he was transported to Berger Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Witnesses reported that the victim was near a motorcycle when the shooting took place. Following the incident, police cordoned off the area with crime scene tape to commence a formal investigation. Jaison Mclean, a 41-year-old local businessman who owns Amnesty Towing, was arrested and charged with one count of murder. Mclean’s truck was observed at the crime scene, parked in front of his business, with the victim’s motorcycle nearby.
New information reveals that the shooting may have resulted from a road rage incident that began in the Logan Elm area and ended on Corwin Street. According to Mclean, David Raines, the motorcycle rider, followed him to his business and confronted him aggressively with his children present. Mclean alleges that Raines, confrontational, attacked him, prompting Mclean to exit his vehicle brandishing a handgun. More confrontation ensued, and eventually, Raines was shot across the street from where Mclean’s vehicle was parked. Mclean claims he called 911 immediately and complied with police instructions upon their arrival.
Authorities are diligently investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
