Cumberland, OH – Motorcycle enthusiasts are gearing up for a meaningful ride this Sunday, August 25, 2024, as Iron Pony Motorsports hosts its 8th Annual Ride for Rhinos. The event, designed to support rhino conservation efforts, promises to be a major draw for bikers and wildlife supporters alike.
Starting at Iron Pony Motorsports located at 5436 Westerville Rd., Westerville, Ohio, the ride will kick off with the first bike departing at 9:30 a.m., with the last leaving by 10:15 a.m. Riders will cover an 80-mile route with a scenic stop before arriving at The Wilds, a sprawling 10,000-acre conservation center in Cumberland, Ohio. The funds raised will benefit The Wilds’ efforts to protect its herds of greater one-horned and white rhinos.
Participants are asked to make a $30 donation for registration, while passengers can join for $20 each. The event includes:
- Scenic motorcycle routes with picturesque photo opportunities
- Insights into rhino conservation from The Wilds’ Animal Management experts
- Raffle prizes and exclusive merchandise
- Access to an Open-Air Safari tour at The Wilds, sponsored by G&J Pepsi
Pre-registration is strongly encouraged to secure a spot in the ride, and reservations are required for the Open-Air Safari tour.
The Wilds is distinguished by its unique status as the only facility outside of Africa where white rhinos have been bred five generations removed from their wild ancestors. With white rhinos listed as Near Threatened and greater one-horned rhinos classified as Vulnerable, the conservation center plays a critical role in their protection. Poaching remains a significant threat, driven by the illegal trade of rhino horn, which has no proven health benefits and is made of the same material as human hair and nails.
