COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost has spearheaded a legal challenge against the Biden administration’s latest immigration policy, claiming it unlawfully attempts to grant blanket amnesty to illegal immigrants. Yost and attorneys general from 15 other states are suing the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) over its new “parole-in-place” program, which aims to offer temporary legal status to 1.3 million illegal aliens with certain family connections in the U.S.

The lawsuit contests the program, arguing it violates a Supreme Court ruling that parole must be granted on an individual basis for urgent humanitarian reasons or significant public benefit. The Court, in its decision on Biden v. Texas, emphasized that broad, categorical amnesty through parole is impermissible.

Attorney General Yost criticized the Biden administration’s approach as a misuse of executive power, stating, “Executive actions that flout the law and undermine our legal immigration system are not only reckless but illegal. The rule of law demands that we uphold the laws as written, not twist them to fit a political agenda.”

Yost, known for his stance against federal overreach, vowed to continue challenging any measures he believes circumvent legal immigration statutes. The lawsuit has garnered support from the attorneys general of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, North Dakota, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, and Wyoming.
