COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Geological Survey is now accepting applications for the Ohio Geology Student Research Grant program. This marks the tenth consecutive year the program will provide financial support to graduate and undergraduate students conducting geologic research in Ohio.
The ODNR Division of Geological Survey plans to award grants of $2,500 each to up to three students from Ohio colleges and universities. The grants aim to support research that aligns with the Division’s mission and enhances the understanding of Ohio’s geology. Selection will be based on the quality of the application, the strength of the professor’s letter of recommendation, and the relevance of the proposed research.
Applications are due by Friday, December 6. To qualify, applicants must be enrolled full-time in a graduate or undergraduate earth science program at an accredited Ohio institution for the 2024–2025 academic year.
D. Mark Jones, Chief of the ODNR Division of Geological Survey, expressed enthusiasm about the program’s impact: “We started the Ohio Geology Student Research Grant program 10 years ago not knowing whether it would generate much interest. It has turned out to be one of our most anticipated initiatives for Ohio’s geology students. We are always delighted to support the academic efforts of the grantees.”
Past recipients of the grant have undertaken significant projects including mapping bedrock stratigraphy, characterizing groundwater aquifers, and evaluating the effects of human activities on soils and surface streams.
