Circleville, Ohio – August 29, 2024 – In a decisive ruling today, the Ohio Elections Commission unanimously cleared the Pickaway County Republican Party, the Ohio Republican Party, and Sheriff Matthew O. Hafey of allegations related to the 2024 primary election. The Commission’s vote was 7 to 0, dismissing claims of wrongdoing.
The complaint was filed by Dale Thomas, who had challenged Sheriff Hafey in the recent primary but did not succeed. Thomas had alleged that the use of the name and logo “Pickaway County Republican Party” on campaign materials by the Ohio Republican Party and Pickaway County Republican Party was improper. Thomas argued that the phrase was a registered trade name owned by another organization. However, the Commission found these claims unsubstantiated, affirming that the use of the name and logo by the State and County Party was legitimate and within their rights.
Following the ruling, Pickaway County Republican Party Chairman Travis Ricketts issued a statement emphasizing the party’s focus on upcoming elections. “Democrats and saboteurs are using every trick to distract us from our key goals this election cycle: Re-Electing President Donald J. Trump and reclaiming the Senate majority with Bernie Moreno. These efforts will not succeed. I’m grateful to the Ohio Elections Commission for clearing our name of these unfounded allegations and remain fully committed to our November victories.”
The Pickaway County Republican Party has a long history, having been established in 1854 to oppose the expansion of slavery. Looking ahead to November, the party anticipates continued support from local voters, reflecting a long-standing Republican presence in county-wide and state offices. The party promotes policies aimed at economic growth, limited government, and the protection of individual freedoms, aligning with their vision of creating opportunities for all residents to achieve the American Dream.
