FAYETTE COUNTY, Ohio — The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the discovery of human remains found in a wooded area near Interstate 71 South, close to Milepost 64 in Jasper Township. The remains were reported on Thursday evening shortly before 11:00 p.m.
According to Sheriff Vernon Stanforth, a highway construction worker found the possible human remains near the Rattlesnake Creek bridge and promptly notified the sheriff’s office. Deputies who were on duty for traffic control at the highway project responded to the scene and confirmed that the remains were indeed human.
Fayette County Coroner Dr. Lenora Fitton arrived at the location to conduct an initial examination. The skeletal remains were collected and transported to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for a more detailed analysis. At this stage, the cause of death and identity of the deceased remain unknown.
The investigation is ongoing and being led by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau in collaboration with the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.
