Scottsdale, AZ — Eagle Produce LLC has announced a recall of 224 cases of whole cantaloupes under the Kandy brand due to potential contamination with Salmonella. The recall was initiated on September 6, 2024, following routine testing by the State of Michigan that detected the bacteria in the product.

Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of infection may include fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (potentially bloody), and abdominal pain. In severe cases, Salmonella can lead to more serious health issues such as arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.

The recalled cantaloupes were distributed between August 13 and August 17, 2024, in Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, Texas, and Virginia. They are identified by a red and white Kandy sticker with the UPC number code 4050.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled cantaloupes as of now. Customers who have purchased these products are advised to dispose of them immediately. For further information, consumers can contact Eagle Produce LLC at 1-800-627-8674, Monday through Friday, from 9 AM to 5 PM PST. Those experiencing symptoms or concerned about their health should consult a healthcare provider.

Eagle Produce LLC is working closely with the FDA to address the recall and ensure public safety.
