During Tuesday night’s Circleville Council meeting, former Safety Director Doug DeBord emphasized the critical importance of the upcoming safety levy, urging residents to support it. Speaking directly to both council members and viewers on CGTV, he highlighted that investing in safety services is paramount for the community.

“With 31 years in law enforcement, I believe there’s nothing more essential for our citizens than a strong police and fire department,” DeBord stated. He acknowledged the financial burden on residents but insisted that maintaining robust safety forces is vital for the city’s future.

DeBord praised Mayor Blanton for the difficult changes made at the beginning of the year, recognizing the challenges involved in making such decisions. “Though it was messy at times and drew media attention, the right thing was done, and I hope the community has come to see that,” he remarked.

He noted the recent appointment of a new safety director Robert Ware and the hiring of retired Colonel Paul Pride from OSP as a consultant, expressing confidence in their expertise and the positive direction of the department. “We have two dedicated individuals who will share their knowledge and experience, which is invaluable for whoever becomes the next chief,” he said.

In addition to his support for the police department, DeBord commended the Circleville Fire Department, calling it the best he has encountered in his career. He specifically recognized Chief Brian Thompson for his leadership and the department’s current strength.

DeBord concluded by urging residents to vote in favor of the safety levy during the upcoming election on November 5. “This levy represents a tax reduction from what we currently pay and is crucial for maintaining our safety services as our city continues to grow,” he emphasized.

He expressed gratitude to the council, the mayor, and all city officials for their hard work and dedication. “Thank you for your efforts to keep our community safe,” he said, encouraging active participation in the voting process.
