Chillicothe, Ohio – A local man was arrested Tuesday evening after attempting to evade police while riding a bicycle without a front light.

While on patrol, an officer noticed Lee Edwards, a Black male, traveling northbound on Bridge Street near the intersection with 2nd Street around 7:30 PM. The officer initiated a traffic stop in the McDonald’s parking lot but Edwards refused to stop, claiming he was “going home.”

Edwards continued riding and failed to yield at a stop sign at the intersection of E. 2nd and Hickory Streets. He then dismounted his bike and fled on foot toward his residence at 188 E. 2nd St.

The officer pursued Edwards on foot and ordered him to stop. Edwards complied and was taken into custody for obstructing official business.

He was transported to the Ross County Jail, where he was booked for the charge of obstructing official business as well as for an outstanding warrant related to drug paraphernalia. Edwards was also issued a citation for not having proper bicycle signal devices.

He received a court date for September 20, 2024, at 9:00 AM in Chillicothe Municipal Court and was left in the custody of jail staff.
