Circleville – One Arrested for Arson Fire at Ted Lewis Park

CIRCLEVILLE, OH — September 25, 2024 — Authorities have arrested one individual in connection with an arson fire that occurred at Ted Lewis Park late last night. The Circleville Police Department, alongside the Circleville Fire Department, swiftly responded to the emergency call reporting the fire at approximately 11:37 PM.

Firefighters arrived on the scene to find a shelter house engulfed in flames. Their coordinated efforts successfully brought the fire under control, preventing further damage. Meanwhile, police officers secured the area to ensure public safety and began investigating the incident.

During their investigation, officers identified a potential suspect near the shelter house. The individual was apprehended without incident and is currently in custody. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, although the fire caused significant damage to the property.

Kenny Fisher, Acting Chief of Police, praised the collaborative response: “We are grateful for the quick response and teamwork between our police and fire departments. Their actions today not only ensured the safety of our community but also led to the apprehension of the suspect.”

19 Year old Charles Mazurek was arrested and charged with Arson, and Criminal Trespassing.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities assess the full extent of the damage and gather more details about the incident.

Circleville was currently working to replace the shelter house and restore the rest of the park in a Phase 2 that may include basketball courts to the park and a walking trail.
