Ohio University Chillicothe invites the community to attend a free Health & Safety Fair and Touch a Truck experience at the Shoemaker Center on Saturday, October 5 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Families with children and adults of all ages are welcome to explore health and wellness related booths representing more than 25 organizations.

“We are very pleased to be hosting the Community Health and Safety Fair again at the Shoemaker Center on Ohio University Chillicothe’s campus,” said Dr. Roberta Milliken, dean of campus and community relations. “The event is a great way to explore and discover services and opportunities our community offers to help us all be more healthy and safe.”

Participants will engage with exhibits and vendors to learn about health and wellness services in the area. Educate yourself on healthy eating, exercise options, and other health and wellness topics at the fair. Representatives from local healthcare providers, wellness facilities, and programs will be on hand to answer questions and provide services.

The event will also feature live demonstrations and instructional classes including Bicycle Safety and Trail Riding with the Ross County Parks District, Tabata, strength training and kickboxing with the Ross County YMCA, and salsa dancing with Sarah Jordan. Local entertainer Lori Graves will serve as the emcee for the fair.

A Touch a Truck experience in the Shoemaker Center’s upper parking lot will allow visitors of all ages to view and interact with fire trucks, a school bus, a snowplow, a semi, a race car, The Bee Bookmobile, and the Chillicothe Trolley. Hayrides will be available throughout the day.

The Ross County Health District will offer flu shots at their mobile clinic and Henderson’s Pharmacy will also have flu and pneumonia vaccines available. Eye Specialists of Ohio will provide basic vision screenings. The Ohio Department of Transportation District 9 will engage participants in a distracted driving simulation. In addition to other giveaways, the Ross County Parks District will distribute a limited number of free bike helmets.

This event, hosted by Ohio University Chillicothe’s Health and Wellness Committee with support from Adena Health System, is free and open to the public with no registration required.
