Circleville, OH—The community is celebrating Deputy David McIntyre, who has recently been certified as a DARE officer after completing two weeks of rigorous training. Currently assigned to the Circleville City School District, Deputy McIntyre is eager to apply his new knowledge to support local students.
The Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program empowers officers like McIntyre to visit elementary school classrooms, teaching children about the dangers of drug abuse and equipping them with skills to resist peer pressure. D.A.R.E. officers emphasize the harmful effects of drugs and encourage children to refuse them. Many police departments in the United States and Canada even promote the D.A.R.E. program by marking their patrol cars with distinctive D.A.R.E. insignia.
Deputy McIntyre has a rich history of service in the area, having previously worked for the Circleville Police Department for many years. He played a key role in establishing Foundations4Youth, a center dedicated to providing positive after-school activities for children. His efforts align with the city’s initiative to open an after-school youth drop-in center, further demonstrating his commitment to the community.
Before joining the Sheriff’s Department, McIntyre worked within the Circleville City schools and worked statewide school safety initiatives under Governor Mike DeWine. In recognition of his impact, the City of Circleville declared a special day honoring him for being a positive influence on future leaders in 2019. Additionally, he was named a COSI STEM Star and served as the Grand Marshall of the 2020 COSI Science Festival.
Raised in Circleville by a single mother, McIntyre spent his teenage years on his grandparents’ farm, a move intended to keep him on the right path. He studied agricultural management at the University of Northwestern Ohio but chose a career in law enforcement two decades ago, motivated by a desire to protect others from those who take advantage of the vulnerable.
Now a father of four, Deputy McIntyre also manages a small farm in Pickaway County, continuing his dedication to community and family. Congratulations to Deputy McIntyre on this important achievement!
