ATHENS, OH – An extensive investigation by the Athens County Task Force culminated on October 2, 2024, with the execution of a search warrant and the arrest of two suspects linked to a local drug trafficking organization.

The Athens County Special Response Team served the warrant at a residence on Fox Lake Road in Athens, detaining multiple individuals on site. The property was subsequently secured and handed over to detectives for further investigation.

According to Sheriff Smith, detectives conducted thorough interviews and searches of both the home and nearby vehicles. Their efforts resulted in the seizure of over three ounces of methamphetamine, crack cocaine, and fentanyl. Authorities also confiscated multiple firearms, cash, and various items associated with illegal drug trafficking. All seized evidence will be sent to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) for analysis.

Simultaneously, detectives from the Whitehall Police Department’s Narcotics Unit executed a search warrant at the home of the primary suspect in Whitehall, Ohio. There, they discovered drug manufacturing equipment, cash, firearms, and additional items related to drug trafficking.

The suspects arrested during this operation were identified as:

  • Shawn D. Agee Jr., 37, of Miller Avenue, Columbus, charged with multiple offenses including possession and trafficking of cocaine, fentanyl, and methamphetamine.
  • Nathaniel Weatherspoon, 47, of Lockbourne Road, Columbus, also facing similar charges.

Both suspects have been transported to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail. The case will be forwarded to the Athens County Prosecutor’s Office, with additional charges anticipated.

Sheriff Smith expressed gratitude to all agencies involved, including the Athens County Task Force, Athens City Police Department, Whitehall Police Department, and the Athens County Prosecutor’s Office, for their collaborative efforts in addressing drug trafficking in the region.
