Circleville, OH – A high-speed collision occurred around midnight on October 10, 2024, on US-23 near the North Court Street merge, resulting in one serious injury and significant damage to two vehicles.
According to the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office, a 2021 Mercedes-Benz was southbound on US-23 and had slowed down to merge into the turn lane when a 2011 Mazda 6, also traveling south at a high rate of speed, rear-ended the Mercedes. The impact caused the Mercedes to spin into the northbound lane before coming to a stop, while the Mazda veered off the roadway and into a ditch.
The driver of the Mazda, 44-year-old Steven Peters of Waverly, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Grant Medical Hospital. The driver of the Mercedes reported no injuries.
Authorities suspect Peters was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. He has been charged with Operating a Vehicle Impaired (OVI) and is considered at fault for the incident. Peters, who has a history of multiple OVI charges and a warrant for his arrest, remains at the hospital and has not yet been booked.
