CIRCLEVILLE, OHIO — Circleville Elementary School is alerting families about an important issue regarding today’s lunch service. The Food Service Department received a recall notification from TreeHouse Foods and Gordon Food Service Company concerning their Gordon Choice Round Homestyle Waffles, which may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
Upon reviewing inventory, the school confirmed that the affected batch codes were part of their supply. Unfortunately, students in preschool through 2nd grade were served these waffles during today’s lunch prior to the notification. Once the recall was received, food service staff promptly removed the product from the remaining lunch services to prevent further exposure. Notably, the recalled product was not served to students at Circleville Middle School or Circleville High School.
Listeria monocytogenes can lead to serious infections, particularly in young children, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of listeria infection may include fever, muscle aches, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea.
The safety and well-being of students is the school’s highest priority. Parents are encouraged to monitor their children for any symptoms and consult a healthcare provider if necessary. The school is sharing this information out of an abundance of caution to ensure the health and safety of all students.
