COLUMBUS, OH (November 12, 2024) – State Senator Tim Schaffer (R-Lancaster) has announced that the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) will award a total of $410,930 to support workforce transportation initiatives in Perry and Fairfield counties.
“These funds are vital to ensuring Ohioans have the ability to access good-paying jobs,” Senator Schaffer said. “The success of our businesses and families depends on the ability to get to work. This investment will help improve mobility, giving residents more opportunities to thrive.”
Perry County will receive the majority of the funding, $335,930, to purchase three new electric vehicles designed to help residents connect to employment centers in Perry, Licking, and Fairfield counties. These vehicles will improve access to job opportunities and enhance transportation options for those in need.
Fairfield County will receive $75,000 for a study aimed at evaluating both current and future workforce transportation needs. The study will focus on developing strategic improvements to better connect local residents to businesses, services, and employment opportunities.
The funding is provided through the Ohio Workforce Mobility Partnership Program, an initiative created by House Bill 23, the state’s most recent transportation budget. Senator Schaffer supported the passage of the bill, which helps fund infrastructure, technology, vehicles, and planning projects aimed at improving transportation options across Ohio.
This investment in workforce mobility is part of the ongoing effort to ensure Ohioans have the resources they need to succeed in today’s economy.
