COLUMBUS – State Senator Tim Schaffer (R-Lancaster) has announced significant funding approvals by the Ohio Controlling Board, aimed at addressing mental health housing needs in Fairfield County and enhancing pesticide testing capabilities at the Ohio Department of Agriculture.

$1 Million for Mental Health Supportive Housing in Fairfield County

The Fairfield County Alcohol, Drug Addiction, and Mental Health (ADAMH) Board has secured $1 million to build 24 permanent supportive housing units. These units will provide shelter for adults experiencing homelessness and struggling with mental health and substance use disorders. The facility will also offer on-site supportive services to residents.

“These dollars will help numerous Fairfield County residents move forward towards success,” said Schaffer. “I am excited to see this construction begin and lives changed.”

Enhancing Pesticide Testing at the Department of Agriculture

The Controlling Board has also approved $743,035.58 for the Ohio Department of Agriculture to purchase new equipment for its Consumer Protection Laboratory. The laboratory plays a crucial role in safeguarding Ohioans by ensuring proper pesticide usage and preventing harm to public health and the food supply. The funding will replace outdated instruments no longer supported by manufacturers.

“The Ohio Department of Agriculture fulfills a critical mission in our state, and these new tools will ensure they keep our farmers and our citizens safe,” said Schaffer.

These investments highlight the state’s commitment to addressing pressing issues in mental health and agriculture while supporting the well-being of Ohioans.
