COLUMBUS, Ohio – The former CSX property near Chillicothe’s City Transit Station is set for transformation, thanks to $1 million in funding from the Ohio Department of Development’s Brownfield Remediation Program. The funds, awarded to the Ross County Land Reutilization Corporation, aim to prepare the site for future development.

State Representative Bob Peterson (R-Washington Court House) announced the funding, emphasizing its potential to spur economic growth and community revitalization.

“This investment is a game-changer for Chillicothe,” Peterson said in a news release. “By transforming the former CSX property, we are building a brighter future that will bring new development. This project is a significant step toward economic growth and a stronger community.”

The grant will support remediation efforts on the site, enabling future residential and commercial projects. Plans include infrastructure to support electric vehicle transportation, affordable workforce housing, and transit-related facilities.

The funding is part of the state’s Brownfield Remediation Program, which has allocated more than $560 million to revitalize abandoned and dilapidated properties across Ohio. These efforts aim to create economic opportunities and enhance community development.

Once cleaned up, the former CSX property is expected to become a key asset in Chillicothe’s efforts to attract investment and provide accessible housing and transit options.
