GROVE CITY, OH – After uncertainty about its future, Trapper John’s Canoe Livery & Creekside Café is officially reopening under new ownership, with plans for expansion.
The historic canoe rental business, located at 7141 London-Groveport Rd on Big Darby Creek, was originally established in 1970 and had been the only commercial livery permitted to operate on the protected waterway. However, after more than five decades in business, the previous owners decided to retire in 2024, leaving the beloved outdoor spot in limbo.
Fast forward to spring 2025, and Trapper John’s is set to make a comeback. A January 24 Facebook announcement confirmed the business will be reopening in May for the upcoming season.
“We’re thrilled to announce that Trapper John’s is officially reopening Spring 2025! We’re working hard to get everything ready to welcome you back for another season of paddling adventures and fun memories with friends and family.”
Along with reopening, the new owners are exploring partnerships within the community to support conservation efforts and expand offerings. The business is also hiring for multiple positions ahead of the season.
Meanwhile, locals took to social media to ask about the return of Trapper John’s Creekside Café, specifically its popular coffee. While no official reopening date for the café has been announced, excitement continues to grow for the revival of this longtime outdoor destination.
