COLUMBUS – State Representative Brian Stewart (R-Ashville) has introduced legislation to honor Pickaway County Sheriff’s Deputy Rex Emrick, who died in the line of duty on January 26th, 2021.

The bill would designate a portion of State Route 56 in Pickaway County as the “Detective Rex Emrick Memorial Highway.”

“Detective Emrick was a strong leader and faithful public servant in our community,” said Stewart. “Renaming this road in his honor is just a small way to pay tribute to his legacy of service.”

“Detective Rex Emrick was not only a well-respected member of the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office but a very loved member of our community,” Sheriff Matthew O. Hafey said. “The naming of the roadway in his honor will help his memory and legacy live on forever.”

Detective Emrick worked for the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office, was a member of Pickaway Lodge #23 F & AM, Provost Unit of Aladdin Shrine, Pickaway Shrine, Scottish Rite and Sons of American Revolution.

The bill awaits a number and committee assignment.
