Pickaway County Dog Shelter recently received a heartfelt donation in memory of Julie Zosel, a devoted animal lover who passed away unexpectedly on September 1, 2020. Last week, family members gathered at the shelter to honor Julie’s legacy and her passion for caring for animals, particularly dogs.
Julie’s sister, Peggy Benson, shared the significance of the donation, stating, “I’m here on behalf of my sister, who passed away unexpectedly about five years ago. She was very fond of dogs, and as part of her estate, we are donating to the Pickaway Dog Shelter to take care of future dogs. I think she would be honored. She didn’t have kids, so she considered the dogs she had as her children—they were family to her.”
The Pickaway Dog Shelter, a primarily no-kill shelter dedicated to finding homes for dogs—including older ones that may take longer to place—expressed gratitude for the contribution. The funds will go toward medical care, food, treats, blankets, and other necessities to ensure the well-being of the shelter’s current and future residents.
“Our shelter is very fortunate to have such a generous community,” a shelter representative stated. “Donations like this help us provide essential supplies, medical care, and comfort to the dogs until they find their forever homes.”
For those interested in adopting, the shelter prefers appointments, offering one-hour increments to allow potential adopters to interact with dogs and ensure a good match. They also provide fostering opportunities for those who may need more time to decide.
Currently, the Pickaway Dog Shelter is home to 16 dogs waiting for adoption. Those looking to support the shelter can visit their Facebook page, “Pickaway County Dog Shelter,” or find available dogs on Petfinder by searching the shelter’s name.
Julie Zosel’s love for animals lives on through this meaningful donation, ensuring that more dogs will receive the care and support they need while they await their forever homes.
