February 6, 2025 – LG Electronics has issued a recall for approximately 500,000 slide-in and freestanding electric ranges due to a fire hazard caused by front-mounted knobs that can be accidentally activated by people or pets. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has reported at least 86 incidents of unintended activation, leading to 28 fires, five causing extensive property damage totaling over $340,000, and three resulting in pet fatalities.

Affected Models

The recall includes multiple LG models manufactured in Mexico and Korea and sold between 2015 and January 2025 at retailers such as Best Buy, Costco, The Home Depot, and Lowe’s. Affected consumers can locate their model and serial numbers inside the oven door or storage drawer.

Safety Concerns

The CPSC warns that the faulty design allows accidental activation of heating elements, posing a serious fire risk. Consumers are urged to:

  • Keep children and pets away from the range knobs
  • Check the knobs before leaving home or going to bed
  • Avoid placing objects on the stove when not in use

Remedy & Consumer Action

LG is offering a free warning label with placement instructions and guidance on using the Control Lock/Lock Out function, which disables the knobs when the range is not in use. Consumers can request these materials by:

Additionally, LG has released an instructional video on how to enable the Control Lock feature, available here.
