Chillicothe — The art year at the Pump House Center for the Arts in Chillicothe started with the opening of the annual high school art competition, the “Best of Ross County,” on Thursday.

It was a capacity crowd as students and their families and teachers filled the public art gallery to learn the results of 85 art pieces from six Ross County high schools on February 6th.

Ross Wheeler, artist and art teacher at Piketon High School and owner of Wheeler Art Studio, judged the students’ works. See the listings and his judge’s statement below, courtesy of the Pump House.

Unioto won the department award, and I asked art teacher Ann VanVoorhis to explains the dominance her school had and to point out her students’ art, which you can see in the below video.

The show remains open through February in the free gallery in Chillicothe’s Yoctangee Park. Learn more on the Facebook page of the Pump House Center for the Arts.
