Today, February 20, 2025, at 1:30 p.m., the Ross and Pickaway County Sheriff’s Offices, along with other local departments, will escort K9 Officer Michael Blue “Mike” home from Faithful Companion in Plain City, Ohio, to his final resting place on London Road.

Mike, a nine-year-old Belgian Malinois, passed away on February 17, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of service and devotion to his community ยน. Born in Germany on November 1, 2015, Mike was trained at Shallow Creek Kennels and joined the Ross County Sheriff’s Office in 2017.

As an explosive detection patrol dog, Mike served with distinction, sweeping locations to protect students, community members, and even President Donald Trump. His impressive skills allowed him to detect around 14 different scents linked to approximately 7,000 varieties of explosive devices.

Mike’s impact extended beyond his official duties. He was a beloved fixture in local schools, where he was known as the D.A.R.E. dog. Students adored him, and he had a special gift for comforting those in need.

The procession will follow the route from Memorial Drive to Industrial Parkway, then to 33, I-270, 23, 22, 56, and finally to London Road. The community is invited to pay their respects to this loyal and dedicated public servant.

Mike is survived by his handler, Deputy Dale Thomas, and their family, as well as countless friends, colleagues, and community members whose lives he touched. He will be deeply missed, but his memory and legacy will live on.
