Chillicothe, OH – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) has confirmed the presence of Avian Influenza in waterfowl at Yoctangee Park following routine wildlife health surveillance and testing.

While officials state that the risk of transmission to humans is low, the Chillicothe Parks and Recreation Department is urging residents to take precautions when visiting the park. Residents are advised to avoid direct contact with wild birds and their droppings, refrain from handling sick or dead birds, and report any such sightings to ODNR at 1-800-WILDLIFE. Additionally, pet owners should keep their animals away from waterfowl and their habitats.

Authorities emphasize the importance of proper hygiene, recommending visitors wash their hands thoroughly after spending time in the park. ODNR and local wildlife officials are closely monitoring the situation and will continue testing to track the spread of the virus.
