Chillicothe, OH – A local woman is under investigation after allegedly waving a firearm at another driver near a McDonald’s parking lot, leading to a police response at a BP gas station on East Main Street.
On March 4, 2025, Chillicothe Police were dispatched to the BP gas station at 1141 E Main St following reports of a female in a U-Haul van brandishing a firearm. Officers arrived on the scene and identified the suspect as Haley Scott, who was in the driver’s seat of the van with her four-year-old son on her lap and her nine-year-old son pumping gas.
When questioned, Scott admitted to having a firearm in the vehicle but denied pointing it at anyone. She suggested the complaint stemmed from a Facebook video she had recently posted, where she was seen holding firearms in a different vehicle.
Police made contact with the caller, who disputed Scott’s account. Beverly claimed that Scott had followed her to the parking lot behind McDonald’s, pulled up beside her, and waved a black pistol at her. She also stated that she and Scott had a history of conflict related to a past break-in incident.
Upon further investigation, officers located a loaded Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun in the center console of the U-Haul. While securing the firearm, officers also discovered suspected illegal narcotics in plain view, prompting a probable cause search of the vehicle. Police recovered:
- One black 9mm handgun and magazine
- Three plastic baggies containing a suspected narcotic
- One cut straw with residue found in Scott’s purse
Scott was read her Miranda rights and denied ownership of the drugs, claiming they belonged to someone else who had been in the van the previous night.
After reviewing security footage at McDonald’s, police found that there were no cameras covering the area where the alleged gun-waving incident occurred. Due to insufficient evidence, no aggravated menacing charges are being filed at this time.
However, given the presence of a loaded firearm near her children and suspected drug use, police seized the weapon, magazine, and ammunition. Officers have recommended a criminal charge of weapons under disability to the Ross County Prosecutor, and additional drug possession charges may be filed pending lab results.
Scott and her children were released from the scene, and the case remains under investigation.
