COLUMBUS, OH – The Ohio House of Representatives has passed House Bill 13, officially designating November 5th as “Roy Rogers Day” in Ohio. The bill, sponsored by State Representative Justin Pizzulli (R-Scioto County), now moves to the Ohio Senate for further consideration.

Roy Rogers, known as the “King of Cowboys”, was born in Portsmouth, Ohio, on November 5, 1911. He rose to fame as an American singer, actor, television host, and rodeo performer, becoming one of the most iconic Western stars of the 20th century.

“This legislation seeks to honor a legend deeply rooted in our state’s history while also inspiring young Ohioans from rural communities to chase their dreams,” said Rep. Pizzulli. “By designating November 5th as ‘Roy Rogers Day,’ we ensure that his legacy and the values he represented continue to be remembered.”

Portsmouth was once home to the Roy Rogers Museum and hosted an annual festival celebrating his legacy for more than 40 years.

With House Bill 13 clearing the Ohio House, it now awaits Senate approval before it can become law.
