FAIRFIELD COUNTY, OH – Two courageous bystanders sprang into action on January 22, 2025, saving a man from a burning vehicle after a serious crash.

As flames quickly engulfed the wrecked car, Bobby Shelton and Keely Thress risked their own safety to pull the unresponsive driver from the vehicle. Realizing he was in critical condition and suffering from severe bleeding, they immediately applied a tourniquet, stabilizing him before emergency responders arrived. Their quick thinking and life-saving actions ensured the victim survived.

Multiple fire departments, including Madison Township Professional Fire Fighters IAFF Local 2507, Bloom Township Fire Department, and Violet Township Fire Department, responded to the scene.

In recognition of their extraordinary bravery, the Greenfield Township Fire Department honored Shelton and Thress for their heroism. Shelton, with his military background, and Thress, a nurse, combined their skills in a moment that underscored the belief that “we are never off the clock.”

A touching moment followed during the award presentation when Katie, the daughter of the man they saved, stood in attendance, witnessing firsthand the heroes who gave her father a second chance at life.

The Greenfield Township Fire Department expressed deep gratitude to Bobby Shelton and Keely Thress for their selfless actions and commitment to helping others.

Thank you, Bobby and Keely, for your courage and dedication!
