The Junior Member Program will take participants on a guided tour of two of the city’s historical landmarks—the Lucy Webb Hayes House and the David Nickens Heritage Center—offering an immersive look at the contributions of women and African Americans in the local community.

The program begins at the Ross County Heritage Center, with a walking tour connecting the sites. Along the way, children will engage with history firsthand, gaining insights into the influential figures who shaped Ross County. Snacks and refreshments will be provided. Parents and guardians are encouraged to register their children in advance by calling 740-772-1936 or emailing [email protected].

Speaker Series: The Life and Legacy of Victoria Woodhull

In the evening, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, the Historical Society will launch its 2025 Speaker Series with a captivating presentation by Ohio historian and artist Robin Schuricht. The program will spotlight Victoria Woodhull, an extraordinary 19th-century trailblazer known as the first woman to run for U.S. president. A dynamic figure in American history, Woodhull was also a journalist, financial advisor, women’s rights advocate, and proponent of social change.

Schuricht will bring Woodhull’s story to life in a first-person retrospective, offering audiences an intimate perspective on the triumphs and struggles of this historic figure. This event is free and open to the public.

These events provide a wonderful opportunity for the community to connect with history, whether through the lens of young learners or the pioneering spirit of Victoria Woodhull.
