Circleville, OH — Governor Mike DeWine and the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (DEW) have announced the 2025 Class of Purple Star Schools, honoring institutions that go above and beyond in supporting military-connected students and their families. Among the 367 Ohio schools recognized this year are three from Pickaway County: Ashville Elementary, Logan Elm Local Schools, and Westfall Local Schools. (Pickaway/Ross is also recognized.)
The Purple Star designation celebrates schools that demonstrate a strong commitment to meeting the unique educational and emotional needs of students from military families. These schools have implemented programs such as peer transition groups, staff training, military family liaisons, and schoolwide events to recognize and support military children.
“This recognition is a reflection of the dedication our schools show in making sure every student feels supported—especially those whose families serve our country,” said Governor DeWine. “Ohio is proud to lead the way in showing appreciation for military families.”
The 2025 class includes 115 first-time honorees and 252 renewal schools, bringing the total number of active Purple Star Schools in Ohio to 700. The designation is valid for three years.
Director Stephen D. Dackin of DEW applauded the efforts of schools across the state: “These educators are doing more than just teaching—they’re building inclusive, supportive communities for military families.”
The Purple Star program is part of Ohio’s broader recognition of April as the Month of the Military Child, a national observance established by the U.S. Department of Defense in 1986.
