Chillicothe Police Respond to Wide Range of Incidents on April 16

CHILLICOTHE, OH — April 17, 2025
The Chillicothe Police Department released its daily media report for Wednesday, April 16, detailing a series of incidents across the city, ranging from theft and criminal trespass to a non-suspicious death investigation.

Early Morning Traffic and Trespass Reports
Officers began the day responding to a traffic incident on Safford Avenue around 5:44 a.m. near the BPO Gas Station. Shortly after, a report of criminal trespass on Eastern Avenue prompted a police response following a 911 hang-up call.

Thefts and Break-ins
Police responded to a series of theft-related calls, including one on McKeller Street just after 7 a.m. and another at the Walmart on River Trace Lane later in the afternoon. A case of breaking and entering was also reported at a residence on Plyleys Lane.

Trespassing and Harassment Complaints
Several criminal trespass reports were taken throughout the day, including one involving utility theft on West Water Street and another incident at Moose Lodge on East Water Street later in the evening. Additionally, police investigated a telecommunications harassment complaint at the Law Enforcement Complex (LEC).

Custody Dispute and Juvenile Concern
Officers were called to Bishop Flaget School on Parsons Avenue in reference to a custody dispute. In a separate incident, a small child was found walking alone near Family Dollar on North Bridge Street around 7:18 p.m.

Warrants and Vehicle Violations
Two warrants were served—one on South Mulberry Street and another following a citizen contact on South Paint Street. Police also investigated a case involving a motorist operating a vehicle without a valid license near East 2nd and North Bridge Streets, after reports of a pedestrian being struck.

Unattended Death Under Investigation
Police and medics responded to a call at a residence on Washington Avenue, where a man, later identified as James Hovater, was found unresponsive and pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities report the death is considered non-suspicious at this time.

Ongoing Investigations
Several other calls, including non-criminal complaints and general disturbances, are currently under investigation. The Chillicothe Police Department continues to follow up on each case and encourages residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
