COLUMBUS, Ohio (April 19, 2025) — Governor Mike DeWine has officially declared April 20 through April 26 as Ohio State Parks Week, inviting Ohioans to get outside and experience the state’s 76 free state parks during a time when nature is in full spring bloom.

“Our state parks are among Ohio’s greatest assets,” said Governor DeWine. “They’re open every day, offer free admission, and provide unforgettable experiences—from peaceful hikes to boating, fishing, and camping with family.”

The week celebrates the beauty, accessibility, and conservation success of Ohio’s expansive state park system. Administered by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), the parks cover diverse landscapes including forests, rivers, prairies, and the Lake Erie coastline.

Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted encouraged Ohioans to explore parks both familiar and new:
“The Buckeye State is full of opportunities to get outside and explore. Ohio State Parks Week is a great time to discover a new corner of our beautiful state.”

Highlight: Salt Fork’s Eco-Discovery Center Opens April 22

A major feature of the celebration is the grand opening of the Eco-Discovery Center at Salt Fork State Park, scheduled for Tuesday, April 22 at 10 a.m. The new center will serve as a hands-on educational hub, offering interactive exhibits focused on Ohio’s natural resources, ecosystems, and wildlife.

“Ohioans are lucky to have such a diverse and accessible park system,” said ODNR Director Mary Mertz. “There’s no better way to celebrate spring than to get outside and experience what makes each of our parks unique.”

A Free Gateway to the Outdoors

Ohio is one of just a few states that charges no entrance fee for its state parks, making outdoor exploration affordable and accessible for all.

Whether visitors are drawn to the serene boardwalk at Maumee Bay State Park or the cultural history at the newly established Great Council State Park, there are countless ways to enjoy Ohio’s natural heritage during the weeklong celebration.
