CIRCLEVILLE — The Circleville Sunrise Rotary welcomed special guests from Touched by Cancer this week to highlight the importance of holistic care in cancer treatment. Sharon Jeanneret and P.J. Tosca addressed club members, sharing how their organization supports individuals navigating the emotional and physical challenges of a cancer diagnosis.

Jeanneret and Tosca explained that a cancer diagnosis can bring overwhelming stress, and that traditional treatments—while essential—often leave patients dealing with difficult side effects. In response, the medical community has increasingly embraced a “whole-person” approach that incorporates integrative therapies to complement mainstream medicine.

Touched by Cancer provides services such as oncologic massage, yoga, relaxation therapies, and educational resources—all designed to empower individuals and promote healing in mind, body, and spirit. These therapies are not intended to replace conventional treatments but to work alongside them, helping patients manage symptoms and improve overall quality of life.

“Massage therapy can enhance flexibility, reduce muscle-related pain, and promote relaxation by reducing stress and anxiety,” Jeanneret said. “This in turn can help patients stay active and better cope with treatment.”

Yoga is also a key part of the organization’s offerings, with a gentle approach tailored to accommodate post-surgery limitations and treatment side effects. “Our focus is to restore energy, gently improve range of motion, and build inner peace,” Tosca explained. “Anybody can breathe. Therefore, anybody can practice yoga.”

Touched by Cancer’s mission is to create optimum conditions for healing while giving patients a sense of control and participation in their recovery process. The Circleville Sunrise Rotary expressed their appreciation for the powerful work being done in the community to support those touched by cancer.
