WASHINGTON — The American Gas Association (AGA) has expressed strong support for President Trump’s swift action on energy policy following his inauguration. The President signed several executive orders on day one aimed at accelerating the construction of essential energy infrastructure, reversing and reviewing policies from the Biden administration, and empowering consumer choice.

Karen Harbert, President and CEO of the American Gas Association, issued a statement commending the President’s decision to prioritize America’s abundant energy resources. She highlighted the importance of policies that ensure affordable, efficient, and low-emissions energy while safeguarding U.S. economic competitiveness and energy security.

“We applaud President Trump’s decisive action to maximize the benefits from our nation’s abundant and essential energy and to protect consumer choice for every American,” Harbert said. “America needs simple, commonsense reforms to ensure our citizens have access to affordable, efficient, low-emissions, and reliable energy, while enhancing our global competitiveness and security.”

Harbert emphasized that the work was far from complete, and expressed the AGA’s readiness to work closely with President Trump, his administration, and Congress to advance energy reforms. She stressed the association’s commitment to initiatives that support economic growth, job creation, energy security, and the safety of the nation’s critical infrastructure.

The American Gas Association recently shared an open letter with President Trump and members of Congress, urging collaboration on five key steps to fully unlock America’s energy potential. These steps are aimed at fostering economic growth, ensuring national security, and enhancing the country’s position in the global energy market.

As a major contributor to the U.S. economy, natural gas remains at the center of the country’s energy independence. The U.S. holds an estimated 3,353 trillion cubic feet of technically recoverable natural gas, which represents more than 100 years’ worth of supply.

Harbert highlighted the tangible benefits of natural gas, noting that households using natural gas for heating, cooking, and clothes drying save an average of $1,132 per year compared to homes using electricity for those purposes. Over the course of 10 years, this translates to $125 billion in savings for American families. Additionally, homes using natural gas for these applications emit approximately 18% fewer greenhouse gases than all-electric homes, making it a key part of the nation’s transition to more sustainable energy solutions.

The American Gas Association remains committed to investing in infrastructure and innovation to ensure that families and businesses continue to have access to affordable, safe, and reliable energy.
