WASHINGTON, D.C. – Anduril Industries has been awarded multiple contracts totaling over $25 million to develop and produce a next-generation solid rocket motor (SRM) designed to enhance the U.S. Army’s long-range precision rocket artillery. The new 4.75-inch SRM, developed by Anduril Rocket Motor Systems, aims to provide greater magazine capacity while maintaining the range and lethality required on modern battlefields.
Anduril, which entered the solid rocket motor industry in 2023 with its acquisition of Adranos, is working to address the increasing demand for rocket propulsion systems amid global conflicts and rising missile production needs. The company is developing its SRMs alongside major industry players like L3Harris’ Aerojet Rocketdyne, Northrop Grumman, and Nammo, as the U.S. military seeks to replenish stockpiles and prepare for future contingencies.
One of the key innovations of Anduril’s 4.75-inch rocket motor is its ability to maximize firepower without increasing launcher size. The compact design has the potential to allow up to 30 guided rockets in a single HIMARS pod, significantly boosting firepower while maintaining existing launcher configurations. Additionally, Anduril is utilizing both traditional aluminized propellant and its advanced ALITEC fuel, which enhances range while reducing size, weight, and power requirements.
With a $14.3 million award under the Defense Production Act, Anduril is improving manufacturing efficiency by implementing single-piece-flow production techniques powered by a bladeless high-speed mixer. The company is also making a major internal investment of $74 million to scale up SRM production at a lower cost, ensuring the Army receives more munitions in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Army Futures Command Commander Gen. James Rainey recently emphasized the need for both highly precise deep-strike weapons and cost-effective mass-produced rockets that can be deployed in large numbers. Anduril’s new solid rocket motor program directly supports this strategic vision by balancing affordability and performance.
With these contracts, Anduril Industries continues to expand its footprint in the defense sector, reinforcing the U.S. military’s ability to sustain long-range precision firepower and maintain battlefield superiority.
