CHILLICOTHE, OH – A Ross County man’s attempt at an April Fools’ Day joke has landed him in legal trouble after he handed a bank teller a note reading “Help!!” at the Atomic Credit Union on Western Avenue.

On April 1, 2025, at approximately 4:21 PM, Ross County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the bank following a report of a potential welfare check. Upon investigation, it was determined that the man had presented the note as a prank.

Despite the man’s intention, his actions caused alarm and prompted a law enforcement response. He has been charged with inducing panic and making false alarms.

Even though this was intended as an April Fools’ joke, it created a situation that required immediate police response and caused unnecessary concern. These types of actions are not considered humorous and will be taken seriously.
