Waverly, OH – A man was arrested on October 2, 2024, in connection with a potential arson investigation following a trailer fire on Schaffer Road.

At approximately 10:11 AM, Ross County Sheriff’s deputies, including Sgt. Champion and Deputy Dodson, were dispatched to assist the State Fire Marshals at the scene. Upon arrival, they encountered Investigators Dunham and Spradlin, who had detained a suspect, identified as Carson McComis.

Investigators reported that when they arrived, they observed McComis loading various items from the burned trailer into his truck. An accomplice fled the scene into nearby woods. McComis claimed he had returned to retrieve tools he had left at the property.

The property owner soon arrived and confirmed that McComis had taken several items from the trailer, which had been destroyed in the fire. Among the items identified were a bag of dog food, a metal box filled with copper wire, a vehicle hood, a propane tank, a bucket of tools, and a foldable bed frame. The owner also recognized a wrench found in McComis’s pocket as belonging to the residence.

Following his detainment, McComis was read his rights by Investigator Dunham and subsequently waived them, providing details about the items he had removed from the property. He was charged with breaking and entering.

McComis was transported to the Ross County Jail for processing and booking. The investigation continues as authorities look into the circumstances surrounding the fire and any additional suspects involved.
