A Chillicothe man, Matthew Koon, who has been arrested before after drinking was arrested early on February 26, 2025, following an altercation at his Akron Street residence that led to charges of strangulation and resisting arrest.

Officers were dispatched to 1017 Akron Street after receiving two 911 hangups from the location. Upon arrival, they observed Koon exiting the front door of the house and attempted to stop him for questioning. As officers approached, they heard a female voice inside the residence shouting, “he was choking me, he was going to kill me.” This prompted officers to follow Koon as he attempted to evade them by walking around the side of the house.

Despite repeated orders to stop and comply, Koon refused to cooperate, becoming increasingly argumentative. Officers continued to issue commands to detain him, but Koon resisted, refusing to place his hands behind his back. At this point, Sgt. Yoder was able to physically restrain Koon, taking him to the ground. Koon continued to resist arrest, prompting Officer Davis to use a Taser to subdue him. After two Taser drive-stuns, Koon finally complied with commands and was taken into custody.

During the arrest, officers observed signs of alcohol intoxication, including a strong odor of alcohol and slurred speech. Koon’s girlfriend, reported that during a verbal altercation, Koon had strangled her and attempted to twist her neck while making threats to kill her. Photographs were taken of the visible redness around her neck as evidence.

Koon was transported to the Ross County Jail where he was booked on charges of strangulation and resisting arrest. The investigation is ongoing as officers continue to gather evidence and statements related to the incident.
