Chillicothe, Ohio — An arson investigation is underway following a fire at a homeless camp behind the Salvation Army on North Bridge Street. The blaze, which was reported around 5 p.m. on August 24, 2024, at 1419 North Bridge Street, caused significant challenges for firefighters due to the camp’s difficult access.

When first responders arrived, they found the area fully engulfed in flames. A female resident of the camp informed authorities that the camp’s owner had been absent for the past two days. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, prompting a thorough investigation.

The fire also led to a temporary shutdown of train services in the vicinity for approximately one hour, as firefighters navigated the area to extinguish the blaze. Authorities are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the fire and have launched an investigation to identify those responsible.
