ROSS – Two utility companies reported the theft of batteries yesterday that may be related to each other.
On March 28th, 2022 I was dispatched to Liberty Hill Rd. on the report of a theft. Upon arrival, the deputy spoke to the Horizon employee who provided information regarding the theft. The Horizon employee stated an unknown subject had broken into one of their boxes and stolen 4 batteries from their box. The horizon employee stated the batteries were approximately one hundred dollars apiece.
It was shortly afterward that South Central power contacted the Sheriff’s department and reported a similar crime
On March 28th, 2022 I was dispatched to Turner Rd. on the report of a theft. Upon arrival, Deputies spoke to the South Central Power employee
who stated an unknown suspect broke into their box and stole two batteries used for backup power. The SCP employee stated they
believe the batteries were stolen on Saturday the 26th. The SCP employee said there was about 100 dollars worth of damage.
It’s unknown why thieves would want these batteries at this time, a quick web search found that thieves are targeting these types of utilities and selling the heavy-duty batteries to metal recyclers for lead and other metals.
