South Bloomfield, OH — July 31, 2024 — Former South Bloomfield Mayor Matthew Pettibone has been arrested following an indictment on charges of having an unlawful interest in a public contract. The indictment, which was filed based on findings from April 2020, accuses Pettibone of violating Ohio’s Ethics Law by using his authority to benefit himself or his associates in public contracting processes.
Under Ohio law, public officials and employees are prohibited from engaging in activities that could secure public contracts for themselves, their family members, or business associates. This prohibition includes directly authorizing contracts or influencing the process to favor such individuals or entities. Violations of this nature are classified as a fourth-degree felony.
Pettibone appeared in Pickaway Common Pleas Court today for the initial hearing of his indictment. During the hearing, he pleaded Not Guilty he was released on his own recognizance bond. A pretrial hearing has been scheduled for August 9, 2024.
