Circleville, August 13, 2024 — A man was reported shot close to the corner of Corwin and Pickaway Streets. The shooting incident was reported around 5:00 p.m. today, prompting an immediate response from emergency crews and law enforcement.

Upon arrival, first responders found the man on the ground on Corwin Street with a gunshot wound to the chest. Emergency medical teams provided initial treatment at the scene before transporting him to Berger Hospital for further care. Not too long after he arrived at the Hospital the man passed away.

Witnesses at the scene reported that the victim was near a motorcycle parked at the roadside when the shooting occurred. Shortly after the ambulance departed, police officers erected crime scene tape around the area, indicating the start of a formal investigation.

A person of interest was found and after questioning by law enforcement 41-year-old Jaison Mclean was arrested and charged with one count of Murder. Mclean owns the Amnesty Towing company here in Circleville, and the storage lot of the company is right where the shooting occurred. At the crime scene Mclean’s truck is parked at an angle in front of the tow company, the victim’s bike is on the other side parked.

Update – Information has been released by people close to the incident that this was a road rage incident that started in the Logan Elm area, and ended on Corwin Street. Mclean claims that the driver of the bike David Raines followed him and then parked his bike and came up to the vehicle aggressively with his kids in the car just after he arrived at his place of business. He then stepped out of his vehicle armed. Arguments still continued and when it reached the other side of the road close to Raines bike that’s when Mclean claimed that Raines attacked him and went for his gun. He said that the gun went off in that struggle and shot Raines in the chest.

Mclean claims that he called 911 immediately and requested law enforcement and an ambulance and did not leave the scene. When police arrived he placed the gun on the ground and listened to police commands.

Authorities are actively working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
