Circleville – Parts of SR-56 has been a cause for concern inside the city for a few months while plans have been constructed on how to fix the issue, but now an immediate need has arisen to cause a closure while repairs are made.
Erosion has caused the roadway to worsen due to the recent rains, making the roadway unstable in the area.
A project is planned later this summer to stabilize the slope adjacent to Hominy Creek; however, recent heavy rain has caused increased movement underneath the pavement. Out of an abundance of caution, ODOT has closed the westbound lane of SR 56 until further notice.

ODOT will be placing a traffic signal at that location to allow traffic to be maintained in both directions. At this time we do not have a time frame for the repairs so the West bound lane will remain closed until further notice.
