ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — Law enforcement responded to a shooting incident in Ross County on the evening of February 17, 2025, after a deputy was involved in a confrontation with a suspect.
Shortly before 5:00 p.m., the Ross County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a residence on Pleasant Valley Road in response to an active burglary. The caller reported that the suspect was armed with a firearm and provided a description of the individual.
While deputies were en route to the scene, one deputy spotted a man matching the suspect’s description near State Route 104, near the Chillicothe Baptist Church. Upon confronting the individual, it is believed that the suspect brandished a firearm toward the deputy. In response, the deputy discharged their weapon, striking the suspect.
The suspect was immediately transported to Adena Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased.
The Ohio Attorney General’s Office and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (B.C.I.) will be handling the investigation into the shooting. The identity of the suspect has not been released at this time. Authorities continue to review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
