
Chillicothe, OH – March 1, 2025 – The Ross County Historical Society is inviting the public to celebrate Ohio’s Statehood Day on Saturday, March 1, 2025, with free admission to several of Chillicothe’s most prominent historic sites and museums. This special event offers a unique opportunity to explore and learn about Ohio’s rich history, with interactive exhibits, reenactments, and guided tours.
Ross County Historical Society | 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM
The Ross County Heritage Center will open its doors for visitors to explore Ohio’s military past with a special exhibit showcasing the state’s volunteer militia history. Attendees can also interact with Ohio Militia reenactors at the Knoles Log House and enjoy a 19th-century Flea Circus performance in the main gallery at 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM.
Chillicothe Railroad Museum | 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Visit the Chillicothe Railroad Museum to discover the important role of trains in the development of Ross County. Explore historic cabooses from 1927 and 1975, and learn about the life and operations of train crews.
David Nickens Heritage Center | 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
This museum highlights Ross County’s African American history, with exhibits focusing on the Underground Railroad, the Black Church, and African American contributions to Ohio’s military history.
Lucy Hayes Heritage Center | 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Visit the birthplace of First Lady Lucy Webb Hayes, the wife of President Rutherford B. Hayes. Enjoy guided tours and a special 3:00 PM presentation by Charles Willing Byrd, Acting Governor of the Northwest Territory.
Ross County Genealogical Society | 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Explore the extensive resources available to those interested in tracing their family history. Society members will be on hand to assist visitors in uncovering their roots and connecting to the rich heritage of Ross County.
