Chillicothe – After a year off due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chillicothe Halloween Festival is set to return to Yoctangee Park this October 8th, 9th, and 10th. Although some attractions have been scaled back to continue health safety, the event is staying true to the original structure of a family-friendly festival event with merchandise vendors offering seasonal and related items, concessionaires offering festival food favorites, the annual Costume Contest, and the popular Coffin Races event.
According to Gene Betts, the Festival’s President, “We’re are extremely excited and grateful that we are able to bring this festival event back, this year, for our community. This past year has been a difficult time in many ways, and the committee is thrilled to be able to bring back this event that is growing each year. Although the safety of all those who visit the festival is our priority, we want to ensure that everyone who attends has a good time.”
There will be a Kids’ Friendly area with attractions focusing on children, while the vendors offer an arrangement of items for all festival-goers. The celebrity Special Effects Artist, Corey McCauley, will be returning to the festival with his limited edition masks and props available for purchase, and meeting festival-goers to discuss his work on films such as Tusk, Fighting the Sky, Myth, and The Bye-Bye Man. Corey will also be the guest judge for the Costume Contest which will be held on Saturday afternoon, and is open to the public to register to compete for cash prizes. In addition to the costume contest, the Coffin Races event will take place on Sunday afternoon, which consists of teams from the area who have created their own coffin on wheels that will race down the designated area of the venue to rank in winning positions for cash prizes per team. Rules and details about both contests can be found on the festival’s website: chillicothehalloweenfestival.com
The Chillicothe Halloween Festival will take place on Friday and Saturday, October 8th and 9th, from 10am to 10pm; and on Sunday, October 10th, from 10am to 5pm. Admission to the event is free.
