Chillicothe Man Arrested After Attempting to Evade Officers after Being Neighborhood Nuisance

Chillicothe, OH — A Chillicothe man, Ralph Mangus, faced multiple charges and a dramatic arrest on August 20, 2024, following a series of incidents that led to his apprehension by local police.

Chillicothe Officers responded to a call at 1000 Block Diehl Street, where Ralph Mangus was reported to have an active arrest warrant. As they approached the residence, they found Mangus seated on his porch. Upon informing him of his arrest, Mangus tried to evade capture by climbing through a window.

Despite his efforts to escape, officers managed to subdue him after a brief struggle. During the arrest, Officers utilized a taser to control Mangus, deploying it twice before he complied and was handcuffed. Mangus was then transported to the Ross County Jail.

The incident initially began when a neighbor who was parked on the curb, reported that Mangus had placed a light bulb and a glove in her van and instructed her to give them to someone named Richard. She also mentioned that Mangus had previously caused damage by ripping security cameras off a neighboring house.

Officers inspected the neighbors van, noting the presence of the light bulb and glove. He then spoke with another neighbor whose cameras were damaged. She confirmed that Mangus had vandalized her property, causing one camera to be pulled from the wall and another to be left hanging.

In addition to the active warrant for theft and resisting arrest, Mangus now faces charges of criminal mischief. He has been barred from the properties Diehl Street.

Mangus’s mother, expressed concern for her safety and revealed that Mangus had not been taking his medication, exacerbating tensions in the neighborhood.

Ralph Mangus remains in custody at the Ross County Jail and is scheduled to appear in Chillicothe Municipal Court on August 21, 2024, at 9:00 AM for a hearing on his charges.
