Chillicothe, OH — A Chillicothe man was arrested on August 17, 2024, following an alleged theft at Kohl’s located at 45 River Trace Lane. Bryan McClarren, who matched the description provided by the store’s employee, was charged with theft after being found in possession of stolen merchandise.

The incident began when an employee at Kohl’s reported a theft in progress. They described the suspect as a white male wearing a black shirt, a gray backward hat, and a black Nike bookbag, while pulling a luggage case. The report indicated that the luggage was suspected to be filled with stolen items.

Police located a man fitting the description on the North Bridge Street bridge. The individual was identified as Bryan McClarren. He was detained and taken back to Kohl’s for further investigation.

At the store, the employee confirmed that McClarren and the contents of the luggage matched the stolen items. Upon inspection, the luggage contained multiple pairs of men’s socks and underwear, along with other clothing items still in their original packaging. Additional socks were found in McClarren’s bookbag. The total value of the recovered merchandise was $559.76.

McClarren admitted to taking the items without paying, stating he needed the clothes due to being homeless. He was informed that he was barred from Kohl’s and could face criminal trespass charges if he returned. McClarren was issued a summons for theft, with a court date set for August 26, 2024, at 9:00 AM in Chillicothe Municipal Court. He signed the summons and was released.

The store has been provided with a statement form and victim rights form to complete, and a request for the store’s security video of the incident has been made. McClarren’s record has been updated to include the barring notice from Kohl’s. The investigation into the theft continues.
