CHILLICOTHE, OH – A man was arrested early Monday morning after refusing to extinguish an open fire in the parking lot of a local McDonald’s.
According to Chillicothe police reports, officers were dispatched to the west parking lot of the McDonald’s at 1124 E. Main St. around 6:23 a.m. on March 3 in response to an open burn. Upon arrival, officers found a man, later identified as Jason Humphries, sitting on the ground with a small wood fire in front of him.
When approached by officers, Humphries allegedly began speaking incoherently and refused multiple requests to put out the fire. After repeatedly refusing to comply, officers attempted to issue him a summons for the open burn violation. However, Humphries refused to provide his name or any identification.
Following several unsuccessful attempts to identify him, police placed Humphries under arrest for Obstructing Official Business. A search of his belongings revealed a bank card with his name, which was used to confirm his identity through law enforcement records.
Humphries was transported to the Ross County Jail, where he was charged with Obstructing Official Business and issued a summons for the open burn violation. He remained in custody pending a court appearance at the Chillicothe Municipal Court later that morning.
